Room for one more

There are people everywhere in the little town of Harmony. People live under ground and above ground. They live literally everywhere but work and office places.

Its always very warm and unmistakably breezy. There is a mountain range to the north and a beach to the south.

On just such a day, a young woman, somewhere in her twenties, was going up to her office on floor seven. She went by her middle name, the name Morgana.

As she was going to the elevator to walk up the stairs to her office, the door was shutting. Then a hand jutted out and held the door.

The hand belonged to a young man, maybe a year or so older than she was and he smiled.

It was eerie. Though his face was in full smile, his smile had no warmth to it. “Your welcome.” He said.

A shiver ran up and down her back. She didn’t like him. He was… strange in such a way that she couldn’t describe him.

He motioned towards the elevator and said, “There is room for one more.”

She shook her head. Clearly, it was full enough all ready. She would take the next one.

He let the door shut. The lights above the door lit up the numbers as they went up. 1… 2… 3… 4… 5… 6… 7…

Then they dropped drastically to one.

The elevator door exploded out of the doorway just after she came to her senses and ducked. The lobby exploded into metal-flecked flames.

She did not take the next elevator. Instead she went home, thinking it would be splendid day to take a day off.

She hailed a taxi.

A hand opened the door for her. It belonged to a young man, maybe a year or so older than she was and he smiled.

It was the same man. The one in the elevator. His smile once again frightened her, but now more than before.

He withdrew his hand and motioned at the seat. “There is room for one more.”

She shook her head. Either she was seeing things or he had a twin. “No. Thank you.”

She shut the door this time. He did not try to stop it. The taxi sped off. She began walking for home.

The taxi crashed two blocks away from where I would have boarded it.

I walked instead to the train station and there again, I saw the man. The train exploded into flames due to the smoke stack literally blowing its top.

Finally she could take no more. So she hired a private jet that was ready on short notice surprisingly fast.

She walked out to the plane and of course the door opened with the same hand on the same man with the same smile.

“There is room for one more.”

“Will I die if I get on?”

“Yes.”

“Will I see you again if I don’t?”

“Yes.”

“Will you go away if I say no again?”

“Never.”

“Then I’m getting on.”

Exactly two minutes later, the plane exploded and the news paper had many stories to write on that the press shut down and everyone moved out of Harmony. And now it is a ghost town in the western US.
Just a boredom flick of an old horror story jazzed up a bit. Doesn't belong to anyone.
